I'm a Water Baby

Maybe I should rephrase: I love living near water. It could be a pool...here are a few that look refreshing:

or a tranquil lake:

or an amazing ocean view like one of these:

Give me any of these views and I would be thrilled.

When I was a kid, we lived in Florida and went to the beach several times a year. I think that Florida's sand is the nicest sand in the US. It's soft and white (on most beaches), although I'm not the biggest fan of the Atlantic Ocean, but I did love it as a kid. We moved to Michigan when I was about 15 and lived on the lake in Grand Haven. The winters on the lake are brutal, but the summers are amazing. I think these pictures show why I loved living there so much:

About 13 years ago, I had the opportunity to live in Hawaii in a condo on the beach! The sound of the waves gently crashing and lulling you to sleep; the beautiful sunsets and spectacular full moons reflecting off the ocean will live with me forever. The downside of living right on the ocean is the damage that the salt air can do to your stuff...but it's totally worth it!!

It's gloomy and rainy here today; maybe that's making me nostalgic for a sunny day and a body of water near by. I am in limbo right now...renting a room from someone...so no current plans for any decorating. I can't wait until I have a place to call my own.

'til next time,

Heather

Trying to keep the inspiration going

I had to join Pinterest in my computer class at school...how fun! I thought I would show some of the stuff I pinned to give you an idea of what's been inspiring me right now. Once I get a place of my own again, I would love to use a color palette inspired by the beach: light sand, sky/light blue and aqua. I think it would be calming and easy to find stuff that works with the color scheme. I would use the softer colors for living/dining areas and a brighter version for the bathroom. I still want to use grey in the bedroom...love the idea of soft greys and silver accents in the bedroom. Here are a few pics that have inspired me:

Now, don't get me wrong, I love beachy stuff and think it's cute to decorate your beach house with literal translations of the beach (shells, etc.), but my inspiration is for the colors only. Like this...

These are just of the few living rooms that I like. In the next post, I'll share some bathroom and bedroom ideas. I know that I will probably never own a beach house, but I do love the idea of living in a home inspired by the beach. I think I could even make it work during the cold winter months.
Thanks for letting me share...until next time,

Heather

I'm back!

I didn't realize how long it had been since I made a post on my blog. A lot has happened since April...I'll share, but try to keep it brief. I was evicted from my apartment in early May (adopted a dog even tho I wasn't supposed to have animals) and eventually moved to northern Utah in July. I'm going to school and I still have my sweet dog that I adopted. He's very smart and very sweet...we're buds. I still read the blogs I love (when I get a chance) and I hope to start posting more often in the future. That's all for now...

The Dream

A bit off topic, but I have always dreamed of living in a small cottage or bungalow and I found the perfect plan for a small cottage that I wanted to share. The company is called Tumbleweed Tiny House Company and they sell plans for tiny and small homes. Heres' the one that I like:

It's so cute; there are two versions but I prefer the smaller at only 461 sq. feet!

I love all the windows in the bedroom..and the front porch is so cute.

Heres' the 3D floor plan; tiny bathroom, but I'm used to that from living in apartments most of my adult life. If you'd like to see more small house plans you can go to the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company's website and check them out. Which one is your favorite?

I imagine building this little house on some land near the ocean (no, not right on the beach; I lived on the beach before and the salt ruins everything you own!)...nothing like the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep.
Okay, this is only a dream but we need dreams to keep us sane, don't we?
Till next time,

Heather

Some design inspiration

I've taken my time to post again...busy with school, so I haven't really done anything in my apartment. I thought I would post some pictures of rooms that have inspired me. These are just a few, but they have definitely left their mark with me and I could see myself moving right in any of them! First, I want to show you some pictures of Jennifer's house (from dear lillie).
I love her style; so classic but fresh with femininity that doesn't overwhelm.
This is her nursery/guest room...so warm and inviting and sweet.
This is the master bedroom...love the headboard (and everything else!)
If you haven't been to her her blog, I highly recommend you go here to see her beautiful home.
This amazing living room is from three men & a lady's blog. I love the clean lines; modern but warm. She has an amazing home and wonderful, creative ideas. Be sure to check out her home here.
Last, but surely not least, is a bedroom from centsational girl...I saw this picture on another blog and it lead me to Kate's blog. For me, this is a perfect room; I was so inspired by this room that I may just have to copy everything in it. The only thing I can't do is paint my walls per my lease, but the walls are the perfect color. Kate is so amazing; her DIY projects will encourage anyone to try at least one. Be sure to check out her creative blog here.
I'm not sure how much decorating I can do right now, but I have been checking the freebies on Craigslist. I need a dresser, another place to sit (only have one chair right now) and table/chairs in my 'dining area'. Of course, I don't know if I will find anything for free to use in my living room, but you never know!

That's all for now...I'm making 3 little girl Easter dresses for my nieces. I am a perfectionist when it comes to sewing; I need the inside to look at good as the outside. (weird, I know) Because of this, it take me awhile to finish a sewing project. When is Easter again?? ;)
Thanks so much for reading my blog...be sure to come back soon.
Till next time,
Heather

Drum role please...

Here's to new beginnings...in my process to restore my creativity and find my design style, I thought I would use this blog to document my journey.
I have been so inspired by those of you who have turned your homes into showcases with little $$ but tons of creativity and ingenuity.
After living in my current apartment for almost 2 years, with its dingy off white walls and made for an office carpeting, the urge to make it more of a home is starting to beckon me closer to fixing it up.

I have always loved items that belonged to another; whether relative or stranger, the thought of someone before me owning the item makes me happy. That's why this trend of using flea market and garage sale items is a good thing. I just hope I have luck in finding stuff.

Any updating or decorating that I do must be done on the cheap...going to school isn't, so I'm on a very small budget.
I'll be sharing my projects here and continue to search for more ideas from all of you talented people. I hope no one will mind that I may steal borrow some of your ideas. Please leave me a comment and a link to your blog; always glad to add your button to my list. :)
Til next time,
Heather
